ktvu channel 2 news' janine de la vega has more on this story, janeane? >> reporter: police tell me he was driving drunk and you can see the damage in the front of the that truck. we are told the driver crashed into the apartment complex that you see across the street. the driver was driving eastbound on taylor when he crashed into the apartment complex. half of the truck crashed into the bedroom where a two-year- old girl was sleeping in a crib. he tried to back out and tried to escape and in the meantime the people were frantically searching for their little girl. we are told the girl was taken to the hospital and is expected to be okay. witnesses say the driver tried to drive away but his truck broke down and that's when authorities got to the scene and arrested him. he is eye didn't paid to as joseph austin and he was arrested for driving under the influence. residents here are shaken up, two adults and two children live in that apartment complex but there is a gaping wall there so there is bound to be a lot of clean up there this morning. janine de l

ktvu reporter allie rasmus is live at st. mary's cathedral with more on how the church plans to honor the victims. >> reporter: st. mary's cathedral opened its door at 7:00. their first service was at 7:30. the doors will remain open throughout the afternoon for anyone who wants to come in and say a moment of prayer. now the pastor led the congregation inside in the 7:30 service in a prayer in honor in attribute to the victims of the connecticut shooting. he also told us off camera they are planning to mention the victims in the services and masses that they have scheduled throughout the cay. inside the church you are looking at a small memorial that is has been set up dedicated to the victims of the shooting. there is a wreath, candle, and written prayer to guide people. we saw a number of people coming by and stopping there. taking a moment to say a prayer. they have noticed more people in general to come in and pray on their own. seeking solace in light of the tragedy. >> thinking about the families and their pain and suff

giving you a look to the beautiful shot from our ktvu cam. and we have high clouds streaming over head. the clouds are helping to, well, off set the cold we felt overnight. you can see those here on the sale light view as i show you the ridge of high pressure. it is bringing us breezy conditions and it is beginning to materialize. chances are you are not feeling them outdoors but we are expecting the hills to reach a 30 miles an hour gust. gusting faster than that at this hour. the winds are going to help us bring the warmer weather. mid- to upper 60s for the afternoon. you can see anywhere from 10 to 15 miles an hour. some of the hills over the north bay and east bay. look at this. they are on the way. and they will be with us on monday. bringing in drier weather and on monday, areas dealing with light wind. this is what you may be seeing. calm to light wind outside your doors. temperatures in the north bay. 36 in napa valley. and santa rosa. and 5 degrees what we felt 24 hours ago. a little bitter there. widespread 40s and livermore. 51 deg

this is ktvu mornings on 2. >> welcome. it's saturday december 8th. >> cold start to the weekend. let's check in with rosemary. foggy. >> right. you foggy for some, frigid for most and slightly warmer by the afternoon. we are waking up with mostly clear skies, some of us to near freezing and some of that fog is dense. i will take a look at it coming up. >> two teens were arrested overnight after a pipe bomb was set off inside a mailbox in a neighborhood. we are live now with more on the damage caused. >> reporter: it all started a report about an explosion in pleasant hill, close to the sun valley mall. what exploded was a pipe bomb somebody putin side that mailbox. that's what is left of it. nobody in the neighborhood was hurt but several residents reported seeing a red suv leaving the area. police spotted that suv outside college park high school and found another pipe bomb inside the vehicle. the bomb squad came out to set off the second pipe bomb. nobody was hurt. police found five teens who had been driving around in that red suv. two of them were arrested. they were cooperat
